How to heal your new tattoo:

If we have applied Dermshield:

You can leave the Dermshield on (unless instructed otherwise) for up to 4 days. On the third or fourth day, remove the Dermshield by holding the area under running warm water, peeling a top edge, and pulling it in a downwards motion (similar to how you would remove a household command strip). Wash your tattoo with warm water and unscented antibacterial soap. Pat it dry with a paper towel, and apply a non scented moisturizer. You may apply moisturizer 3-4 X daily.

If your tattoo was Saran wrapped:

Remove the wrap a few hours after our appointment or once you’re home. Wash the tattoo with non-scented antibacterial soap and warm water. Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel and apply a THIN later of aquaphor. Rub it in as If it were regular lotion. Repeat this process 3-4 times daily until day 4, then you may switch to unscented moisturizer/lotion.

•itching/peeling is a normal part of the healing process. Be sure not to itch or pick at your tattoo. You can give it a gentle slap/apply moisturizer when necessary.

•”ink sacks” in the Dermshield are normal/expected. Do not pop or try to empty the fluid. If fluid can escape, bacteria can enter.

•if your Dermshield leaks, remove it early and refer to the “Saran wrap” healing directions.

•give your tattoo 2 weeks minimum to heal before swimming, hot tubbing, tanning/sun exposure, using scented soaps/lotions.

•do not do any excessive sweating/workouts while wearing Dermshield.
